Events ("we are driven!")
June 28th Welcome Summer Drive- DWW enjoyed a spectacular (however warm) day of driving in the country on Wye Island. Temps in the 80's but cool breezes off the water made for a delightful and enjoyable day followed by a delicious lunch! A good time was had by all.
August 11th Summer Fun Drive-
Perfect! is the only way to describe this wonderful location and drive. Incredibly, there were NO BUGS! Everyone present enjoyed a delightfully cool, humidity-free day of scenic waterside driving with numerous sightings of heron, owl, deer and colorful songbirds. No wonder Bozman's called a "sanctuary."
Testimonial:
"Thanks DWW for a perfect day of driving!
Wow! "a great drive AND a bald eagle sighting!"
August 30th Summer's End Drive- The C&D Canal was absolutely lovely on this day! Lots of sunshine, cool breezes and passing boaters made for a very summer-like experience. This location is perfectly suited for conditioning due to its long stretches of hard pack road and multiple elevations for developing muscle and cardiovascular strength. A real training ground!
Training tip:
Take it slow here if your horses are barefoot or not in condition!
Sept.13th Get Ready for Fall Drive-
Redden Forest's HQ tract was the location for another successful event. Despite questionable forecasts the day was sunny, with a light breeze. All paths were clean and dry and participants enjoyed an afternoon of quiet reflection and camaraderie.
Reminder:
Remember to call ahead to request the gates be unlocked if you plan on driving here.
Sept. 28th Welcome Autumn Drive-
Norman G. Wilder's outing was, unfortunately, precluded by adverse weather. DWW anticipates enjoying this venue in the future.
Confucius say:
Better luck next time !
Beach advisory:
Best left to pneumatic tires and a well-conditioned equine.
Nov. 1st Beach Buggy Drive-
This drive was a study in contrasts!
The weather was *spectacular* and the horses handled the surf & sand with confidence and style. Unfortunately, the flies (though not biting) were present in incredibly unexpected numbers. We're going back, but after fly season...
National Drive
Kentucky Horse Park
Nov. 29th Turkey Trot Drive-
What a day! Fantastic weather at Wye Island combined with great trail conditions made further exploration of this wonderful venue possible. Abundant wildlife sightings added to the enjoyment as we arrived back at the trailhead content and ready to eat.
You may have still been consuming turkey, but our eyes were feasting on eagles, fox, hawks and other abundant wildlife.
Dec. 15th Holly Jolly Drive-
An unexpected change of location found us driving at Fox Haven Farm on an unseasonably warm day. Additional passengers and the "maiden voyage" of carriage dogs Gisele & Brady made for a "howling" success!
Brady & Gisele say, "Sit, Stay, Drive On!"
Dec. 26th Boxing Day Drive-
Cape Henlopen was the scene for a delightful seaside drive with family & friends. Santa bought new cloths for the boys and they looked sharp as we trotted along!
Wonderful! Said a DWW participant.
Jan. 4th Happy New Year Drive-
Wye Island was once again the location for what turned out to be a gorgeous sunny day. Six turn-outs arrived to enjoy the casual cameraderie that is the hallmark of DWW drives. Each person chose their own route, pace & drivetime with the knowledge that help and fellowship were just a hoofbeat away.
DWW- come if you can, drive as you please, leave when you want. No hassle driving!
Jan. 18th Cabin Fever Drive-
Blackbird State Forest was the choice for this event. Two intrepid whips braved the elements for what turned out to be a delightful winter drive. Wintery skies, above freezing temps & no wind made this day pleasantly satisfying.
Did you notice- that DWW now has an official logo? (soon to be on items of apparel)
Petersburg Pete says: "Oh boy! Six more weeks of driving!"
Feb. 1st Ground Hog Drive-
Petersburg C&R Center was the site for this drive. What a *beautiful* day it was! Patches of snow dotted the trails, giving a wintery landscape to an otherwise spring-like day. For those who couldn't attend... :-(
Feb. 14th Sweethearts' Drive-
"So, other than *that* Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?" pretty much sums up this day for me! What began with our tow vehicle getting stuck in the mud, and ended with our driving home without brakes (yes, you read that right) was none-the-less *wonderful* in-between! Once again the weather Gods smiled upon us and four carriages and a rider enjoyed another gorgeous day of driving at Redden Forest's HQ tract. Everyone present got a Valentine treat!
Feb. 16th Hail to the Chiefs Drive-
Bozman was breezy but beautiful on this day. Crisp leaves crunched under our wheels as bald eagles soared above. Heavenly!
Elizabeth Browning: "love doesn't make the world go round, love is what makes the ride worthwhile."
(Scroll down for more coming events!)
Breezy cold but young & old enjoyed this beautiful location followed by a picnic lunch with fellow drivers.
Feb. 28th Pocomoke Pleasure Drive-
Furnace Town, MD. The threat
of bad weather was not enough to dissuade several DWW drivers from the allure of Pocomoke State Forest. The weather held off and all present agreed that it was a most agreeable location for future get-togethers.
Kris & Buddy's Excellent Adventure
or Buddy('s) Holiday- whatever, Buddy made up for his ever-so-slight naughtiness by showing us all how debonair he could be afterwards!
March 14th Bread Man Cometh Drive-
Fair Hill was its usual spectacular self on this drive. DWW is *so* lucky to have a location like this for our driving pleasure.
The bread man cometh!
Bringng banana bread, freshly baked white bread, rosemary bread, thyme bread... all yummy delicious!
March 28th March Madness Drive-
What can we say? It would have been madness indeed to have driven Redden after all that rain and with more predicted. So, we didn't!
Gettysburg-a Drive into History
Wow... "name your adjective" applies here! It's hard to describe the feelings one gets when privileged to drive over such hallowed ground. We will all hold wonderful memories of this special place.
Great friends, great weather, great drives were the hallmarks of this incredible weekend and worthy of a special remembrance (coming soon to the participants).
Stuck...again! for the third time in as many months we get mired in mud!
May 18th Bozman- a drive into....mud. Seriously though, in spite of getting our trailer & tow vehicle stuck (again) we had a great day and the puppies had their first "official" carriage drive. They liked it!
Fair Hill Weekend- was "Fair" indeed, with three fabulous drives separated only by one huge downpour (which we avoided by about 35 seconds). Sunday's attendees experienced lots of dressage riders, CDE marathoners and one CRAZY (but fun) drive alongside the river. Yikes!
Fair Hill - was fair indeed... (with a few "Yeehaws" thrown in by enthusiastic participants).
Thanks- Carl, Laura, Emily, Mary, Bob & Bethany for sharing this wonderful experience with us!
Rockefeller State Park, New York-
was an incredible experience. Five DWW invitees made the trip to share some of the most beautiful carriage trails we have ever driven. Though each of us arrived from and returned home on individual schedules we all enjoyed the camaraderie of the pre-arranged stable & camping facility and two memorable drives together.
Back in business... but still kicking cancer's ass!
Nov. 15th Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow Drive- Cape Henlopen was heavenly on this Indian Summer-like day. The beach was wide and firm and the horses had a great time on it.
Great- Home-made banana bread with chocolate chips!
